scroll wheel not working HP usb optical mouse

My HP usb optical mouse works fine, except for the scrool wheel. The wheel can be used as a clickable button, but does not seem to want to scroll. I have tried everything that I can find to read about scroll wheels + usb mice. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
-Norman

Solved

I booted up Knoppix and my mouse working perfect, took a look at its XF86Config and this is what it told me:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "USB Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Buttons" "5"
EndSection

My mouse worked like a charm after.
