why are you trying to compile bttv yourself? it's been part of the main kernel for absolutely years...

You need more than just the bttv module. Check the kernel docs (especially /Documentation/video4linux/bttv/README) for the other modules you need to compile.

In that case the extra modules are not getting loaded for some reason. Check with 'lsmod' if i2c-core is loaded, for example. Also try 'modprobe i2c-core' to see if you can load it manually.

Usually when you do 'make modules_install' the kernel makefile runs the 'depmod' command which resolves dependencies between modules and automatically loads what is required to avoid these errors. Again you could try running 'depmod -a' manually to see if there is any difference.

# modprobe i2c-core
FATAL: Module i2c_core not found.

i get that when i type it in but i have everything for i2c added as a modules is there and other place that it is besides 'Devices -> i2c' ?

and when i run depmod and depmod -a nothing shows up it just goes to the next line...

For some reason your kernel modules are not where the kernel expects to find them. Try running the command

find /lib/modules -name i2c-core.ko -print

to see if the i2c-core module is there. Also make sure the the kernel you are booting is the one generated at the same time you compiled and installed the i2c modules. In particular the output of 'uname -r' should match the directory in which the i2c-core module is found.
