Not able to get graphical mode in RHL9.0

Hi,

I had installed RHL 9.0 in dell machine (having TFT monitor)...
That time graphical mode is working fine...but now if I give init 5 or
startx in at the prompt immediatly the screen will go blank and display the message
"Not able to display this video mode"

Please help in this regard...

Bye

Sri

it seems that your refresh rate and pixels parameter defined for xserver are not correct, so what you can do is, you can change those parameters by editing /etc/X11/Xf86free file.

may be its not supporting the modes you have selected.
post the o/p of xorg.conf (may be in /etc/X11/xorg.conf)

You need to reconfigure your xserver, try running redhat-config-display. Redhat 9 is really old and Redhat no longer supports it or provides any update. I think you would be better off using a newer Linux OS like Fedora Core (one of the replacements for Redhat Linux).

The file you need to edit is /etc/X11/XF86Config. Running "redhat-config-display" as I mentioned above will autodetect the right settings for you, then make the changes to the config file. If it doesn't you will have to pick your monitor from a list or use generic settings.

You can run xf86config for xf86cfg to reconfigure your X server. You need to first note down your display's horizontal synchronization rate, vertical refresh rate and buffer memory.

Red Hat 9 is old. After that Fedora Core 1, 2, 3, 4 and now 5 has been released. Please upgrade.
