Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Nebula digiTV remote not working

Hi,
I have installed linuxtv (v4l) on my Ubuntu Dapper machine. I am currently using Kaffeine and some times MPlayer to view.
The TV is Nebula Electronics DigiTV USB and is supported by the linuxtv driver (from http://www.linuxtv.org)

Being lazy, I have tried for the last week or so to get the remote control to work. I have been reading about lirc and I think it is supposed to work through the /dev/input/eventx interface.

Just installing lirc does not seem to be enough. I have found lircd.conf and settings for hardware.conf, but I get no response from the remote when testing it.

I have then found http://linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index.php/Remote_controllers.
It mentions some other modules I must load. I have found some of these in my compile directories for v4l, but I get errors when trying to load them:
insmod: error inserting './bttv.ko': -1 Unknown symbol in module

Has anyone got this working? Can you provide me with some hints as to how to proceed?
I presume anyone with a USB based DVB device will have a relatively compatible config/setup. Possibly others with PCI cards too.

Thanks,
Mons

Strange remote control

I had just about given up the remote when I decided to remove the linuxtv drivers (v4l-dvb) and reinstall from the source.

And guess what, the remote control is now working.
Well, partly anyway. I can adjust volume and in Kaffeine I can change channel by selecting program number directly. Most other buttons don't work, not even channel + and -. The off button is somehow linked to shutdown and brings up the log off screen (I'm using Gnome on Ubuntu Dapper).

In MPlayer only adjusting volume work.

I don't think I have had lirc installed, but I don't know if that is what it is using at the moment. Could anyone give me some hints as to how I can configure the remote control?

Thanks, in advance.
Mons
