Unhappy modem

Hello,

I have a conexant hsf modem, and I cant get it to work with Slackware. I have downloaded and tried all of the drivers for linux and they work perfectly fine under Redhat, but not in Slackware. The driver installs ok and i can condigure it just fine, but when i go to dial with kppp it always says "Sorry, can't open modem".
If anyone has had the same problem or knows how to solve this please help!

Thank you all in advance,

-1 confused guy

what is "hsf" ? Is it an high speed (DSL) modem? In that case, I don't think kppp can handle it

Did you make sure you have the correct port for you modem ? Like is it trying to use something like /dev/ttyS0, that maybe linked to /dev/modem ??

hello,

the hsf is not a dsl modem, its the type of conexant modem. They make HSF and HCF.

and when i install my modem, it automatically creates /dev/HSF0 and makes /dev/modem link to that.

Thanks for your help,

Type 'dmesg' and look for anything regarding your modem. I'd be interested in seeing if the module choked on it or something...
