Please post the contents of your /etc/X11/XF86Config file that appear to relate to your mouse.

I think he understood that your mouse is optical, and I also think he was expecting it to have a wheel (scrollwheel) on it also.

In your XF86Config file which is located here: /etc/X11/ there should be a section "InputDevice".

Normally looks something like this:
Code:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "Auto"
Option "Device" "/dev/sysmouse"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no"
Option "Buttons" "5"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection
Hope this helps, otherwise post your XF86Config file so we can try to see if we can tell what is wrong.

no wheel...sorry bout that.
Leave out the Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" line
Change the Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2" line to:
Option "Protocol" "Auto"
or
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"

if it is a usb connected mouse, you can try this:
Option "Device" "/dev/usbmouse"
