Logitech Wheel Mouse (Optical)

I just installed Red Hat 8.0 and no matter what I select for mouse; whether being generic or Logitech specific it won't detect the mouse. Is there any simple fix? I checked logitech for linux support but didn't find any.

hi,

I'm not using RH8 at the moment, but I have (with this same mouse), and it has worked well. I think I haven't changed the config of my /etc/X11/XF86Config at all, so it's the same on my system at the moment as it was on RH8...and here it is, the Section "InputDevice" for my mouse in /etc/X11/XF86Config :

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "imps/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "off"
Option "Buttons" "3"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

and this make my optical logitech mouse work, with wheel, just ok. I'm not sure what your device for the mouse is, mine is /dev/psaux..but you might try that. the last line on the config above makes the scroll-wheel work..

If its usb and it doesnt work by just unplugging it and plugging it back in, then your usb support is broken and you should be worried about fixing that first...

Maybe redhat 9 would be better?
