Linux Debian / Belkin OmniView PRO3 KVM Poor Resolution Problem

Hello All,

Thanks for viewing my thread. My problem is I have a few Debian machines hooked up to a KVM switch and I cannot get the resolution of any of the Debian boxes to 1920X1080 which is the normal resolution they function at, currently the highest resolution I have gotten the boxes to is 1024x768 on the KVM. The KVM also supports resolution up to 1920x1440. So, I am confused. I tried to reconfigure my xorg.conf file, I added additional resolution modes, etc but nothing has worked.

Currently:
Thor3:/home/tester3# xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1024 x 1024
VGA connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 304mm x 228mm
1024x768--- 60.0*+ 75.1 75.0 70.1 60.0* 59.9
832x624--- 74.6
800x600--- 72.2 75.0 60.3 59.9 56.2
640x480-- 75.0 72.8 72.8 75.0 66.7 60.0 59.9
720x400-- 70.1
640x350-- 70.1

My /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Card0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 1
Modes "1920x1080" "1600x1200" "1680x1050" "1600x1024" "1400x1050" "1280x1024"
EndSubSection

Thanks a lot!

Are you using the vesa driver? Vesa knows what modes it can do, and 1920x anything isn't one of them
Also, depth 1 gives you black & white. Is that what you want? It also probably takes you into code that 'should work' 'used to work', but hasn't been tested in a while.

Take out _all_ those modes and give it 1920x1080, and 960x540 (exactly half)
I trapped X's output when I changed monitor & aspect ratio. X said "1440x990 - that's clearly ridiculous - delete that for starters; later it said Hmmm, no valid modes: Let's ask the hardware ...seems the hardware can do 1440x990 - let's invent a mode for that" and away we went.

It needs an aspect ratio setting in xorg.conf That's 1.7778
