Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Driver needed for Intel mobile 965 PLEASE

Hi. ya'all

For compatibility issue with a program I am using, I have installed a very old version of Linux, centos 4.7 (corresponding to RHEL4), via VMware. X org version is 6.8.2 and Kernel is 2.6.9-78.

It is not important for me with other hardware non-recognition, but video card problem.

My Sony laptop that is equipped with Intel chipset has Mobile Intel 965 Express Family video card. My vista surely gets 1280x800 as the native resolution, but the highest resolution I have for Linux via VMware is 800x600 with Vesa. I have changed it to many different video card models, but no luck. It’s too inconvenient for me to look at the small screen for many hours almost every day.

Would you (anybody) help me to find a good driver with installation guide?
I would really appreciate in advance for saving a big portion of my life

Dear pixellany. Thank you very much for reply

Yes, I indeed visited this site several times before I decided to post. Even this site as well. http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/dri...6-video-intel/

However, I couldn't understand "git". I have searched about this. I understood that it would give you ability to hack your kernel version so that you could make your own driver. A huge thing is there is no much info about how to use git.

That's why I questioned anybody could give me not only a driver, but also instruction. As long as I have some good links about using git, I will try in that way.
