You need a fairly recent kernel - I don't know which one the driver came in, but what's your current kernel?

The later i915 driver should work with the 965; the older versions would not work. The only problem is, I don't know how many months ago 'recent' is.

For the xorg driver, use the "intel" driver (successor to the i810 driver).

2.6.9 is ancient; with various changes in device driver structures from 2.6.15 to 2.6.16 and the abolition of devfs from 2.6.12 to 2.6.13 (or was that 2.6.11 to 2.6.12) I doubt that it would be trivial to backport the i915 driver. If you really want that driver I'd suggest switching to a newer kernel; at least 2.6.23. This is not a trivial task though - a number of tools have to be updated as well. What distro are you using?

The kernel is probably updated, my version
on the identical CentOS4.2 is 2.6.9-22

Well, if it isn't sufficient, it should be possible
to compile a few kernel modules with the usual
"4 - liner" 'Makefile'
see #4
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...5/#post3237765
(compiling-a-module-separately-without-compiling-entire-kernel)
