Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Broadcom device does not appear in lspci or dmesg

I'm trying to get wireless working under Linux on my HP dv6000 (AMD64), but the Broadcom device is not appearing in the lspci or dmesg output. The device has only been showing up occasionally in Windows.

What I'd like to know is: How can I test the device in Linux? I'd like to be able to see if somehow it was damaged (although that seems strange since Windows sometimes lets me use the device).

You say windows "sometimes" lets you use it? That sounds damaged to me.

Heh, I feel dumb now. All I had to do was unplug the laptop, remove the battery and press the power button for 15-20 seconds. Wireless appears to be back now in both Windows and Linux.
