Certainly not a x86 optimized one like: Debian, Mandrake, Fedora etc.
Generally those based on prebuilt packages, I hope nobody slams me for this.
I recommedn my distro: Gentoo 2005.1
www.gentoo.org. Very good documentation, source code based, can be optimized for everything, very easy configurable, good package management (portage). You can also download the GRP set and install without a in ternet connection,,, Check the official site, the Handbooks will say things better than I can!
Other examples: Arch Linux(very customizable and fast), uhh nah just check distrowatch and you might find a good distro for you.
You have to try more distro's before you'll chose one fit.
