Marvell 88E8053 PCI Express LAN Card

Someone help ><

after looking on google and the ASUS webnsite for a few hours, I finally concieded defeat.
I can't get the afformentioned card to work on gentoo linux.
I tried three different versions of drivers, all with the same problem.
The install script doesn't install so I tried the patch. That works all fine and dandy until it is time for make modules. Then it hits a problem and the compile stops and the module doesn't compile.

Currently, I have gentoo-dev 2.6.9-r1 kernel running

If I try the User Install Mode, this is what the log file reports:

make: Entering directory '/usr/src/linux-2.6.9-gentoo-r1'
Building modules, stage 2.
MODPOST
make: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-2.6.9-gentoo-r1'
+++ Compile error

And when I compiled it on Knoppix (cause I was annoyed) it worked and eth0 was recognized.

Anyone have any ideas? =/

which driver are you trying to install? which driver is knoppix using? use lsmod under knoppix to see which it is. if knoppix can make it work, then you won't need to install any third party driver, just the ones built into the kernel. the closest match i can see in 2.610 is the sk98lin driver, although i did just read something about it not wokring with your card (by a kernel developer) .. but if knoppix get's it working somehow, that's the best place to look.

Hey there,

Ok, a little clarification. Knoppix didn't have it working until I ran the installlation script that came with the driver. The driver i tried installing on Gentoo was the one off of ASUS's website and Marvell's website. (one was *.2 and the other was *.7).

Well, about it not working, it definately works in Knoppix and I have heard that it works on Fedora but I haven't got it working on gentoo yet =/

ok, which kernel is Knoppix running? for a gigabit card (i.e. relateively new) i'd think it unlikely that it only worked on 2.4 but you might be suprised... also if you can post more of the compilation errors we might be able to dig a little deeper.

Well my problem has been solved...
I think it might have just beent he script not liking gentoo-dev-sources becuase i got another script from
http://www.syskonnect.com/syskonnect...l-7_09.tar.bz2
and it works fine.

Thanks for your help,
Matt K.
