Anyone been able to play opengl games in wine using ATI Radeons?

i'm thinking about getting a radeon 9600 xt, but i have heard that the drivers (aside from being a bit difficult to install) don't work well with wine (or winex)

i know that i use wine pretty heavily to play games like warcraft 3 and simcity 4, but many winex users have reported that it won't run with ati drivers

is this the same for normal wine? what are all of your experiences?
