Overwrite Mesa OpenGL with ATI OpenGL

I'm trying to get my ATI card to work with direct rendering, and the problem seems to be that I'm using the Mesa OpenGL and not the ATI OpenGL ( http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/linuxhowto-ati.html ).

The problem is that my Mesa drivers arn't overwritten by the ATI OpenGL drivers. So how can I fix this?

$ fglrxinfo

OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.1)

Try to locate fglrxinfo :
which fglrxinfo

Note the output, then locate shared libraries :
ldd /path/to/fglrxinfo

from that, you have the idea where the libraries for OpenGL are, so to use ati libraries :
- locate ati libraries, then
mv <library linked with fglrxinfo> <same name>.old
ln -s <ati library> <name of library linked with fglrxinfo>

How do I locate the ati library files? I'm not so good at this
I don't even know if I have them.

For my part, I have a nvidia card so I can't help you much but NVIDIA install gl lib in :
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions

name :libglx.so.1.0.6111
and it create the link : libglx.so

I think lib name should be nearly the same in your system, try to find original ATI libglx.so and put it in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions and do the symlink

This is the result of locate libgl | grep -i ati :
Quote:
/usr/share/gtk-doc/html/libglade/libglade-Libglade-Initialisation.html
Which probably means that I've to download the ATI OpenGL drivers, but I haven't found them.

I got the file /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.a and that is the only one.

It seems like this's the ATI gl library. But still it wont load it.

No it is the original Mesa library if you did not install ATI driver from www.ati.com

I noticed too that nvidia install :
- libGL.la
- libGL.so
- libGLcore

in /usr/lib, that should be similar with ati driver install
