Ok, sorry I have another problem...

Its sound again. I installed the OSS drivers and when I do the test in the OSS installer, everything goes fine and I hear the test sounds, but when I try to use sounds in anything else (even the "test sound" button in the sound card dection dialog) nothing works.

and whe I start up it gives me the same "error initialising sound driver" error

Are you loading the correct module for sound and which module are you loading, how are you loading it ?
Also, did you remember to change the permissions for /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer so regulars users besides root can use sound ?

And next time, use a better thread title other than "What the hell ?" That in no way helps us know what your problem is when browsing.

Also you should keep the existing problems with their original threads, no need to start a new one. If you start it with the original thread, it gives members a chance to look back on the whole problem and will help them better understand how to proceed in helping you, instead of starting from scratch.
