Webpage requires IE5.

Hello LQ,

FC5 installed.

I have an issue with my browser. I want to be able to access my retirement options on my employers web page. I have the option of re-allocating different funds to different places blah blah blah. The issue is as soon as you try to access the benefits office's web page, it does a check to see what browser you are using and it spits back the message:

Quote:
This Web Site requires Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher for it to work properly.

Click Here to download the latest version of Internet Explorer.
I do not have windows on my computers. Strictly Linux. Is there a possible workaround for tricking a website into thinking I'm using a version of internet exploder?
I'm using Firefox and I'm in the process of installing epihphany as I type this.
Just wondering if there is a trick or is there another browser that works for a situation like this.

Thanks everyone!

I use firefox. I've never used it, but I'm pretty sure there's an extension in firefox called "IE" or something that is pretty much Internet Explorer in a firefox tab. ... Not sure if it runs under linux though... maybe it's only for windows...

You can try using User Agent Switcher
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/59/

You need IE for IETab to work. You could always install wine and use IE6 from there.

Konqueror and Opera both have a User Agent preference built in.

Rudy,

Thank you for your reply. I installed Opera and that did the trick. I'm going to check out
the extension for firefox like you mentioned.

Thanks again.
