Mounting mounts a filesystem, audio CD's do not have filesystems, hence they are not to be mounted.

Then, how can I access the content of the audio CD, and play the song?

Yes, but i not running k3b, it's audio player which pop up itself when I insert CD in gnome. In KDE, the ksCD is pop up. Both player output the sound to the CDROM audio jack.

hi guys/gals, thanks for the help very much, I've found a site that talked about this :http://www.jonh.net/cgi-bin/lppcfom/...curse=1&file=1

So, i do this to get my machine recognize cdrom:
cd /dev
ln -s scd0 cdrom

and edit this line in /etc/fstab:
dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 user,noexec,nosuid,ro,noauto 0 0

and i can play the audio cd by open kscd. Just that the sound output is from the audio jack of the cdrom itself. I think it is good enough for me. I don want to waste too much time, (especially the GURU here) just to get the sound output to computer's soundcard. (But if anyone know how to do it, pls let me know, if it not take too much of your time, ;p)

Thanks again, u all do a very good job. I really appreciate it, especially the reply is surprisingly fast for a new man like me.

Where it says Location. There are other programs that let you play or rip the CD.

Plugging your speakers or whatever into the soundcard should work, you have the cable from your cd drive to the soundcard right?

Windows doesn't need it because it can play cds digitally, but Linux still requires the analogue cable from drive to card afaik

*Edit* Nylex is right, i'm a muppet, no idea then sorry

Maybe you have to enable the right thingie in alsamixer

It's a USB CD drive, so there won't be a cable to connect the drive to the sound card.
