typing on keyboard jumps to mouse cursor position

I really don't know is this is a SuSE problem or Linux in general but for years now I have been having a very frustrating experience and I just can't seem to find an answer.

No matter what application I am using, including mcedit which is text based, when I am typing, the cursor jumps to where ever the mouse cursor happens to be. This is worst than annoying and makes me want to throw my laptop against the wall.

By the way, this has been happening with various versions of SuSE and various laptops. I really don't know if it happens on Desktops also because I have not used a desktop in years.

Can anyone give me a definite solution?

I am currently on SuSE 10.1 but this has been happening since 9.x

I had a similar problem, but it turned out to be a faulty mouse nipply thing. I just disabled the internal mouse in the BIOS and use an external mouse. Seems highly strange that you get the same problem with multiple laptops though... Maybe not the same thing then.

Thanks for the reply but it most definitely is not the mouse.

Happens to me too. I always blamed it on accidentally touching the touchpad (below the space bar) with the knuckles of my thumbs.

Help

It's been a while now and I don't want to believe that no one is aware of this behavior. I have been searching the net and have found that many others have the same prob but no one seems to have an answer. Is there anyone out there worthy of the task.
