Trouble playing audio cd


Simply Mepis Distro has been on hard drive for two weeks.cd and dvd players had been functionining.After booting I now get msg
"sound server error while initializing sound driver"
device/dev/dsp can't be opened (permission denied"
the sound server will continue using null output device.
Ive tried chmod 666/dev/dsp...still get error msg.Can u help?

Is your user a member of the group audio?
