I have a REdhat ES 3.0 that has a problem with services freezing up. It started with print jobs freezing and just not printing. It has expanded to affect other functions. lpc and lpstat -t just freeze when typed into the command line. Ctrl-C does break the application and brings the terminal session back to the command prompt. When going in to the services option the services configurator freezes up if you try to select a service to restart.
I've rebooted the system (twice) and the problem does not go away. Before the services configurator froze, I was able to restart most services. I did a fsck on the main partition and found 4 or five unconnected inodes.
I'm completely new to linux so if I don't type the correct lingo forgive me, but the programmer who typed the original post knows a handfull of stuff. I talked to a few other people, and they suggested deleteing the current print services, reinstalling them and reinstalling the driver...
One other suggestion was to do a virus scan, becuase it could potentially be a virus. Has anyone heard of a virus just attacking the print services

I doubt it's a virus. But removing and reinstalling never hurts.
Originally posted by awptech I can't seem to find the printer drivers for my printer from HP's website. I have a HP 8150n Laser printer
Don't specifically look at their site, you could be using open source drivers that were supplied with the distro. Check your configs and or look at the modules your using (lsmod) to try and determine what driver your using.
A great resource is to check the cups homepage or perform a search on cups and your type of printer to find more information.
