there are 2 logic Partions (20 G) on my Laptop,

/dev/hda5/8832 MB
Free 1 1
/dev/hda1 1 1306 10245mb vfat (WinXp installed) NO-format
/dev/hda2 1307 2432 8833mb extended ( I wanne to re-install redhat 7.3)
- Free 1307 1307 < 1 Free space
-/dev/hda5 1307 to 2432 8833mb vfat NO-format
but i can't make a partion on the hda2 (extended) or hda5, or ANY changes on them.
e.g. use 'edit' or 'add /boot'
also Error: "could not allocate cylinder-based partitions'"
How can I do then?
Please help me!
Thanks!
you want to re-install linux or what. if you want to reinstall just pop in the cd and then when it asks for partitioning delete the previous partitions and create the new partitions.
You don't have any free space on the hard drive to create an additional partition because hda5 is using all of the space in the extended partition hda2.
If want this computer to be only linux then let the installer program partition the hard drive for you.
If you want to keep the existing partitions you will need to resize hda5 to say 3gb and let Redhat install to the remaining 5gb. One method of resizing is using the application fips located in the /dosutils directory on the 1st CD.
