Post Red Hat Linux 8.0 sndconfig!

Hello,

I have recently reinstalled RH8.0 on my IBM Netvista 633, 256MB, TFT box. codename "Window Buster".

I was unable to get any sound to play from my cd/rw previous to this install. But while upgrading my hard drive and adding some RAM I noticed a peculiar cable that belonged plugged in was alas, unplugged.

Now... my cd player will not play audio on boot. I have to log in as root and run "sndconfig". THEN I GET CD AUDIO!!! first time in linux I could and I'm happy about that.

BUT..... I would really like it if I didn't have to run sndconfig as root everytime I reboot my machine to get audio from my machine.

I have looked into this a little and found what my /etc/modules .conf file is composed of and here it is:

alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
alias eth0 sis900
alias eth1eepro100
alias usb-controller usb-ohci
alias sound-slot-0 trident
post-install sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -L >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumix -S >/dev/null 2>&1 || :

__I can hear system sounds and cd audio__ (after running sndconfig)

Do I need to modify this or any other files to make my blissful dream of my ideal Linux experience a reality or am I doomed to forever have to explain to my girlfriend and all of the folks I spread the wealth of Linus Torvalds discovery to that there is really no comparison ( feature wise as a desktop platform ) between Linux and Windows (_bleh).

Thanks for reading my long winded post and happy hacking!
