Quick Question about Resolution

HEy guys, I just upgraded from core 5 to Core 6 via yum. Everyting went great the box came up to the boot screen and I was able to login. Then I rebooted and the screen is blank. I see the swirling cursor then the box seems to change to high res and just stays blank. The box is up and I can ssh to it. How to I adjust the res down so I can get back to the login screen?

Thanks

If I run xorg -config xorg.conf I see the mouse and I can move it but I get no display? I have a viewsonic VE700 and it looks like it is configured correctly - See bottom of post for the actual xorg.conf file.

Thanks

Ok - check it out:

Section "Module"
Load "dbe"
Load "extmod"
Load "fbdevhw"
Load "glx"
Load "record"
Load "freetype"
Load "type1"
#Load "dri"
EndSection

I changed it then rebooted - I see the grub screen then then briefly I see the cursor with the bubbles around it then the screen goes black - then grey - then black - then grey - then black - then just stays at grey. Then it goes blue like the background and I see a greyed out box on the blue back ground. Might be the box that shows while its loading the logon stuff....then it blinks black - grey black grey. and then jsut stays grey again?

Hum

Hum - ctrl alt + - does not switch res. and here is the only error I could find

[zak@localhost ~]$ grep error /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
[zak@localhost ~]$

Very strange.

X can't switch resolution because there is 1 mode in xorg.conf:

Depth 24
#Modes "800x600" "1280x1024"
Modes "1280x1024"

you can uncomment "#Modes "800x600" .." line

this is xorg.cong here:
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

Ok I chaged it up a bit:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "tdfx"
VendorName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "3Dfx Interactive, Inc. Voodoo 3"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 16
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection

Section "DRI"
Group 0
Mode 0666
EndSection

Its so wierd - I see the cursor for a minute then it does that blinking crap and I see the bluebackground with the greyed out box on it.
Going to reboot now and see what happens.

Thanks!!

Hey Thanks for all your help - I got pissed and rebuilt! I loaded up core 5 and I am going to try to yum update again. This all broke after I did an upgrade from 5 to 6 via yum. It worked once then went to lunch. I will post the results and thanks again for you help.
