Postfix


alrite . im no linux pro but and i need ur help

im trying to setup a mail server

im using a debian sarge distribution
kernel is 2.6.12 (custom)

so i installed postfix and when i try and test my mail server out by doing "telnet localhost 25" i get the following error in my log:

Jun 26 22:08:50 localhost postfix/master[9607]: warning: process /usr/lib/postfix/smtpd pid 9612 exit status 1
Jun 26 22:08:50 localhost postfix/master[9607]: warning: /usr/lib/postfix/smtpd: bad command startup -- throttling

can any1 help me out? thx

greatly appreciated

Have you edited your local.cf for your site/network? I have seen that error on unconfigured postfix installs.

srry im total noob

i dont see a local.cf in my /etc/postfix/ directory

should i create one? wut should i put in it? i already have a main.cf . do u wish me to post it?

Sorry, I was thinking about spamassassin when I posted. Try looking at /etc/postfix/main.cf and master.cf. These are the two critical config files for postfix.

i think it something to do with debian chrooting the user postfix in group sasl or something?

can any1 help me out plz? im really desperate rite now
