mutt: Couldn't lock /sent

 When sending command line messages as root, error occurs:

 ''Couldn't lock /sent

 ''Could not send the message.


 ----

So the command like is troubles.
Whatever you do, you get error, and this is not your .muttrc and /var/spool
since on several pc, same error.

the solution:

run mutt

and it'll fix it. send yourself an email.
I do not know mutt does, but it fixes the errors.

error message :Couldn't lock /sent while sending mail using mutt 1.8.3

The following changes will helped to solved the problem
#/usr/local/etc/Muttrc

set record="/var/mail/sent"
set mbox="/var/mail/mbox"
set mbox_type=mbox

Reason: The group of mutt_dotlock which checks and create the .lock file in mail box
should match with the mail box i.e sent (outgoing Mails) as well as mbox (Incoming Mails).

bash-4.3# ls -ltr /usr/local/bin/mutt_dotlock
-rwxr-sr-x 1 root mail 73776 Jul 6 15:28 /usr/local/bin/mutt_dotlock

bash-4.3# ls -ltr /var/mail/sent
-rw-rw---- 1 root mail 3321 Jul 7 13:10 /var/mail/sent
bash-4.3# ls -ltr /var/mail/mbox
-rw-rw---- 1 root mail 0 Jul 6 16:30 /var/mail/mbox
