Configuring necessary items so MUTT can send email

I'd like to eventually be able to use mutt to send & recieve email from the command line. I've configured fetchmail so that it grabs mail from the pop servers but now i'm wondering how I can configure MUTT to use my smtp server to send email. I've done some googling and it looks like I need to configure sendmail but the only info I find on sendmail is very very indepth and relating to features I don't care about. Anyone know of any relatively easily configurable alternatives to sendmail?
