mplayer text mode blank around screen

hey if i whatch a movie in text mode with mplayer -fs ill get black around all the edges and the movie in the middle ( like some movies are made to be ) but if i play it in fullscreen in X same way as i tried in text mode same movie as well i get it all fullscreen with no black surrenderings so question is what can i do to get to play fs without the black surrenderings? thanks.

the -zoom option will probably help..

yeah i dunno i tired that and -vop crop,expand isnt helping though i could just be doing it a bit wrong though i wish thed give examples sigh
