Mounting NTFS

Hi All,

I have a quick question and I apologize if this is a repeat question. I know that RH does not support mounting ntfs partitions "out of the box", however, is there a version of the kernel out there that does?

Any pointers to projects or web sites that help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

tims

You'll have to compile your own kernel - you can either roll one out from the kernel sources (www.kernel.org as mentioned above), or build one from a .src.rpm - you'll need to edit the .config and SPEC file accordingly. NTFS by default kernel settings is READ-ONLY - do *not* enable WRITING unless you've backed up all your data.

There *may* be a mandrake kernel out there which has NTFS support build in, but since I don't use Mandrake or even precompiled kernels much, this might just be a lie.

Well, yes, mandy does have NTFS support built in, but I thought RH did too? What are you doing that is leading you to believe differently?

mount -t ntfs /dev/hdx /mnt/windows

not working?
