Kind of ironic; I've been a Linux user since March, and I've only visited these forums out of Windows. It's just wrong.
Problem is, Linux doesn't seem to grok my modem. For that matter, neither does Win98. XP calls it a "Toshiba Software Modem AMR" on COM3.
I have no idea what the flux a software modem is, really, but I've heard of something called "Winmodems", and I've got the sinking feeling that's what this bugger is.
Is there a way for me to surf the 'net in Linux using this internal modem, or do I have to shell out for a PCMCIA modem? I really don't want to do that, and not just because it's bloody expensive; External modems are SLOWER. Really, this laptop is 100 times faster than my dad's desktop, and both are running 56k modems.
Mind you, that could be the difference between a 1.0 GHz Celly and an old PII 266
