make menuconfig error

I was trying to mount ntfs partition in centos 5.1 and i followed the steps in wiki.centos.org but it didn't work ive read some forums that if i don't have the ntfs module i need to compile a new kernel, so i tried to compile and followed the procedure in http://howtoforge.com/kernel_compilation_centos but after that make menuconfig i got an error

how can i solve this problem? or perhaps if theres another solution that would help me mount ntfs partition on my system.

I do not use centos but that guide is meant to be a kinda quick start and maybe you lack some dependencies.

2) have you ever build a kernel before?

now is the time to make a backup of your /boot/config file....the actual file you will use inside your kernel source will be called .config....confusing eh?

no, i never build a kernel before. i already solved the problem. i don't have the ncurses-devel so i installed it. ang back up my config using 'make oldconfig' in the directory of the kernel source. still has errors though.still figuring out what is it.

Make sure you have ncurses and ncurses development packages installed on your system, otherwise make menuconfig will fail as it depends on these libraries.
