make menuconfig error messages

Hi everyone

I run Mandriva Spring 2007. Tried to configure the kernel but when I type make menu config I get GTK+ needs installing type message. I try make xconfig I get an error no QT dev installed. I then tried make gconfig and I get the GTK message again. I finally tried make config! Guess what? Yes, I get an error for this as well.

Right, I have installed the source kerenl as a rpm from the dvd installation disk. I've checked the /usr/src dir and there is a Linux sym link to another Linux version XXX dir. All seems fine. I installed the GTK and the QT packages. I even used the EXPORT command to direct any programs to where the QT devep packages reside and guess what? Still no luck. I checked using printenv to see if what I added using the export command actually worked and yes it did.

I want to configure the kernel to see if I can get certain hardware working.

Any ideas. Sorry I couldn't get the precise messages, I'm sure you are familier with them.

Hi and welcome to LQ.

You really need to post back the detailed error messages so that we can figure out the exact problem.

As a start, in addition to what reddazz has said, you can check that the GTK+-develop and / or the OT-develop packages are installed. Mandriva separates developmental and runtime software packages. You may have GTK+ installed, but no the developmental software (header files, associated libraries, etc.). If after checking that the required runtime and devel packages are installed you still get the error, post back with a detailed report of the error.

HTH,
HI Ernie

Thanks for the reply. How can I check whether I have the necessary headers and associated libraries installed.

This is the error message:

[root@localhost linux]# make gconfig
*
* Unable to find the GTK+ installation. Please make sure that
* the GTK+ 2.0 development package is correctly installed...
* You need gtk+-2.0, glib-2.0 and libglade-2.0.
*
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `scripts/kconfig/.tmp_gtkcheck', needed by `scripts/kconfig/gconf.o'. Stop.
make: *** [gconfig] Error 2

Regards

Ganz
