By all means yes! Well, I should caveat that with you need to select a distro for PPC architecture. So when you download an ISO image to install, just make sure it is PPC (power PC, i.e. Mac). I know for sure Debian and Ubuntu support PPC, not sure about the rest...

Rep:
What type of Mac do you have?
Some Macs are more linux friendly than others - eg my Powerbook G4 refuses to sleep or connect to the wireless network even though the Airport is detected.
I suggest that you research very carefully about Linux compatibility with your Mac (Yellowdog has a good hardware listing) before you install.
Actually, I don't have a Mac...it was a curiosity-based question. Back in high school (mid-to-late nineties), I was on the PC side in the Holy War. (I'm more reasonable and openminded now, though.) Our side won, but dishonorably--our reluctant ally, Microsoft, assimilated Apple.
