kernel compile ----unable to open console

hi everybody

i was a having pretty nice time compiling my kernel.
i have been compiling 2.6.3 kernel
nothing wrong here
but when i got to 2.6.5
it gives an error

"unble to open console" during bootup

and it does not load

i then tried it again with config file of 2.6.3 working kernel
then too the same error

then i compiled my 2.6.3 with the same config file,it is working
what is wrong here
anybody pl. help????

you must have forgotten the terminal stuff in make menuconfig. go back and recompile or just install a kernel image.

i have been using the same config file as that of 2.6.3 for 2.6.5 also

but then too the same problem

and what terminal stuff u r talkin about???

You may want to check that you have these options enabled in your kernel configuration:
Device Drivers --> Character devices --> Unix98 PTY Support
File systems --> Pseudo filesystems --> /dev/pts
