error message on installation

i'm a novice..i tried to install linux in one partition of my system.(current os- win 98se).
i received an error after the Disk Partitioning Setup phase of the installation saying something like "The partition table on device hda was unreadable. To create new partitions it must be initialized, causing the loss of ALL DATA on this drive."
what should i do?
please help ?

redhat linux 8.0
hd 20 gb
c-f windows partition.(current os- win 98se)

What partition sizes / types do you have on the disk already?

i've installed it almost successfully. but can't configure modem

modem is not detected..
any idea?

What modem is it?
Probably need to install linux drivers for it.

motorola sm56 speaker phone-internal modem.
do i need to download the driver? if yes, from where?
i can download it with windows, but how cud i get that in linux partition?
