CD installation error message

Hi All

When Itry to install Mandrake 10.1 Official on my IBM desktop PCI received this error message:

I can't access a Mandrakelinux Installation disc in your CDROM drive (LTN486S)
Retry?

What should I do to avoid this error?

Can you verify the cd is bootable by trying it on another computer?

If the disk works on another PC then

a) Your CD reader may not be able to properly "track" the disk. Either because of firmware/age differences, or hardware problems in the reader.

b) Your computer's configuration causes the kernel to be unable to access the CD-Rom drive during boot.

You may want to try the ati1 startup instead... which may fix this.

I would re-burn the first cd and try again. I know you said it works on another computer but if the new copy does the same thing on both pc's then you have a problem with your reader.

Hello

I am having the same error as the original post;
"I can't access a Mandrakelinux Installation disc in your CDROM drive (LTN486S)
Retry?"
Is there any solution or workaround for this??? I have burnt the iso's / checked checksums etc etc .
The CD works fine in another computer with exactly the same components ... they are Dell GX1's.
I have 9.2 already installed .... can I get it to work from within this enviroment??
Have also checked the logs ....

=====================================

mounting /dev/hdc on /temp/image as type iso9660
mount failed invalid argument

=====================================

thanks

I did re-burn the first CD, but still the same problem, and I doubt there is prblem with the reader, beacuse when I tried to install windows there is no problem.

This may sound far-fetched but what kind of CDs do you use ?
Re-writable or just one-go ?
Had once a problem with a re-writable one that sounds like yours.

Just my 2 cents

Use the drive from the other machine in the dell and see if the install works. Just because Winblows installs don't take that as a green light that all is well with your hardware or indeed media.

Non-sequitor

The Windows CD's are MASTERED SILVER disks versus what you are burning for Mandrake.

You can't compare the two.

Ooops Nexus beat me to the punch...

So, like he said!
