downloading multiple files(even while the user is not logged in)
i have been using wget for large sized downloads as it will continue to download evenwhen i am not logged in in a LAN.suppose i want to download multiple files.(quite a large number of them, say 20-30),what should i do.(i need to continue even when i am not logged in.)
also,i use prozilla as download accelerator.is there some download accelerator which will continue to download something even while i am not logged in??
thanks,
arun
where filename is a list of urls should do it. 'man wget' has that and some refinements about retries and no-clobber and whatnot. (wget is so cool.) Not sure about the accelerator.
or atleast tell me to write a shell script to do the same.(i.e,downloading 30-40 files even when i am not logged in,using wget.).
This shell script must continue to execute even while i am not logged in.(obviously).(is there an option with wget to run a shell script from the net even when i am not logged in??i.e,
wget [OPTION] <url_name/My_Shell_Script_to_download_multiple_files.sh>
would do the trick for me??)
thanks in advance,
arun
Well, like I say, I've never tried it but I don't believe a shell script would be necessary. wget will just read the urls successively - it basically *is* a shell script saying 'wget download-this-file' over and over. wget just needs the list. And, as far as I understand it, the ampersand backgrounds it and as long as the process isn't directly killed and as long as it doesn't barf on a screwed download, it'll keep going. I could be wrong, though - if somebody else has more direct knowledge about it, maybe they could pitch in. Or, as I say, 'man wget' will tell you everything wget can do.
