Cursor not rendering in RH8

I just installed RH8.0, the first Linux install I've got to work properly, but the mouse cursor is not rendering in both KDE and GNOME. My mouse works fine, but instead of having a cursor, I have a large square (about 1"x1" on a 1024x768 screen) that is some combination of transparent and negative colors. Anyone know how to get the cursor to show up? Changing the cursor graphic in the command center doesn't work.

Also, I'm on a laptop and I can't get my trackpad to work. I remember when I installed RH7.2 a while ago the trackpad was the only thing that worked and I couldn't get the mouse to work -- strangely, the opposite hhappens now.

I also have some soundcard and Firewire problems, but I've found some pertinent info in the archives I'll try out. ...

Thanks.

As for the mouse cursor, search the archives for your graphics chip and mouse... good luck!

Cheers,

Theres an option you can put in XF86Config to render the cursor in software since some drivers have trouble with this. I'm not really sure of the syntax.
Its something like Option "SoftwareCursor" in the device section.
Might also be Option "sw_cursor".
Check google for those terms youre bound to stumble on it.
