computer hangs after update

Hello all. I am using the newest version of kubuntu, not sure which one that is at the moment, and I modified my adept_manager so that it accepts pre-released stuff. So I ran an update and now my computer just hangs at startup. It boots into KDE and loads kicker but not all of the icons in kicker show up. The network manager doesn't show up nor the clipboard. The only one that does load is the volume control.

If I try to do alt+F2 to type a command it opens the command window but does not allow me to type anything. the start menu work and I can open programs that way but once they are open there is no top bar that allows me to close them, minimize them or even move them. If I try to open konsole it opens but does not allow me to type anything either. I think my video card driver might have been updated in the process cuz the screen flickers on and off like three or four times and it did not used to do that. Is there just anyway I can revert back to the previous updates even though I am not sure of what all it updated? Or does anyone have any ideas on how to fix the problem?

Thank you so much for the help in advance.

Matt

Lightbulb Your Answer My Friend......

hi my friend....
your problem is as mine when i updated my kubuntu (like you)
you have to do this to solve your problem.
first you have to boot in recovery mode (in your grub boot menu)
then when the command line comes type this command.
sudo apt-get install -f
it will show you your broken packages that you are install.
now it will ask you to remove them. Enter 'y' and press enter...
when it goes done reboot your system by this command.
sudo reboot
now go to your kde desktop by a normal login.
now if the X button and others didn't shown on top of windows do this.
press Alt+F2 (or select the "Run Command" from kmenu.
then enter "kwin" in the field.
now press enter and enjoy.
(if you cant type first go to recovery mode again then run this command:
editor
now enter kwin in that then press Ctrl+O then save this file as a text file.
now reboot again... press Alt+F2 and copy that text from the file into the field.
(for do this go to the location that you saved that file then open it. now select the text in it (kwin) and right-click on it and select copy.
now go to the run command window and right-click on the field and select paste (or press Ctrl+V) now press enter and enjoy))

I HOPE it be helpful...

Bye.

Thank you very much for the quick reply. Before I went to bed last night I did the following:
apt-get clean
apt-get autoclean
apt-get autoremove

After this I rebooted and so far things seem to be working fine. Thanks again for the help. It is much appreciated.
