cannot login to FC3 linux but can login to FC2 linux and windows XP boot

Today I cannot login to FC3 linux but I can login to FC2 linux and windows XP boot of my computer.
When I boot my computer with FC3 linux, the login screen appear. I type in my user name and password, after about 1 minute, the login screen reappear. It does not complain that my user name and password is invalid.
When I boot my computer with FC2 linux or windows XP, I can login without problems.
How to fix this problem?

can login as root but as powah only get a terminal

Hold down CTRL+ALT+F1 allow me to login.
It complain no disk space is available, so I delete some files.
Then I do
startx

This message appear:
Server is already active for display 0. If this server is no longer running, remove '/tmp/.X0-lock' and start again.

I remove /tmp/.X0-lock and reboot but relogin still get the same message.
Now I can login as "root" and get the the KDE running correctly.
However, when I login as "powah", then I only get a terminal and startx fail.

Log in FC2 as root.
Make a temporary directory in FC2's /mnt
Mount the FC3 partition on it.
Chroot to FC3
Overwrite the old root password with a new one
Add any new user if needded.
Reboot and log in FC3 with the new root password or the new user password.
