xmame 0.96 - 1st Time Running of Buck Rogers

Hi - has anyone run Buck Rogers: Planet of Zoom (buckrog.zip) with xmame? I wonder if there is some first time initialization that I'm missing because when I run this game, all I get is an initial start-up screen (never gets to the title screen, quarters are not accepted, etc.).

I can run the self test diagonostic and it looks like the keyboard input is recognized. Also, the book keeping count of quarters is incremented correctly. I just can't figure out how to get the game to run.
