I was able to install wine and world of warcraft on my slackware system. The problem is is that once I get into the game and start playing, about 2-3 minutes after I start attacking monsters, it kind of locks up. I say it kind of locks up because nothing is really happening, even if the animation keeps going. The monster I'm attacking stands there, as if I never attacked it (even if it was attacking me prior to this), and I just stand there casting forever, or stuck in some stance where I'm about to hit the monster. The funny part is, I know the game is still going, even if my computer isn't showing it. When I log in, I've already killed the monster. I figured this would sound kind of newbish, so I also took the liberty of installing Mangos (a wow server emulator) to see if its maybe the server I'm on. I check the logs when my game freezes, and find out that the game is still continuing without me, even if my computer just sits there. I log out of the server, and back in, the monster is dead, and I go on my merry way until I freeze again. This seems to only happen when I attack a monster though. Any ideas folks?
Do you think it might be because I updated wine to 0.9.46 from 0.9.45 without uninstalling the latter? I just figured the new one would install over and there should be no problems.
Anyways, I tried rolling it back to 0.9.45, no go, even though it worked prior to upgrading to 0.9.46. I tried removing all the composite crap I had to put in xorg.conf for Beryl, as well as disabling Beryl, no go. I tried copying WOW from a working computer, no go. I'm fresh out of ideas.
I tried using a different window manager (tab window manager included) - does not help
I tried logging in as root to see if it was either a user account problem, or an access problem, still no luck.
I tried closing down all network applications except WoW, still nothing.
Its like the game desync's after a couple of battles or something.
Do your fps drop down or not? If they do, then it's GLX and loaded modules problem. Similar problem was solved in #winehq channel by disabling composite extension loading, but you have already stated that this is not the case.
My suggestions:
1) Try earlier versions of wine and check if WoW works with them
2) Ask for help on irc.freenode.net #winehq channel
3) If nothing helps, report as a bug to winehq bugzilla

Thank you for the reply. the FPS don't drop at all, I can walk around like nothing is happening. The monster I was fighting faces me, no matter where I go from them (IE they will turn if I try and walk behind them). I tried the last version of WINE, maybe I have to go farther back. It was working with the previous version of wine before though. This seems to be a case of: I changed too many things while it was working without going back to see if anything screwed up. I will definately ask for assistance on irc.freenode.net, and if nothing comes of it, I will finally report it through bugzilla. I appreciate your attention to the issue.
WINE emulates Windows API, so it might be dumping a lot of FIXME. I suggest run WINE in full debug mode. Also use strace and gdb. You should get a hint what is it doing. Also post the command that you use to load up WoW.
Did you try using Cadega? It may provide better support for WoW unfortunately, you have to pay $15 to activate it.
In WINE, it is best to re-install the program after updating WINE.
