I installed flightgear 1.0 today on my arch installation, having a few worries after the last version went the same way as this one on my arch (and previous debian) installations. All went well until I ran the program, when everything became very bad (it is difficult to describe!). The whole screen turns silvery and flickers a bit. You can see the shapes and everything (kind of), and all the controls work, but it is very blocky and looks terrible and is totally unplayable.
Here is a screenshot of what is going on:

Ouch!
So anyway, here are some specs (hope they may help):
- Kernel 2.6.23
- Card: ATI Radeon 1600
- Drivers: Catalyst 7.11 the proprietary ones (I forked out enough for the card, I expect the damn drivers to work!)
- Distribution: Arch (fresh today!)
As previously mentioned, I have tried this on debian too and the same problem happens , so I dont think it is a problem with flightgear - I think it could be the rubbish ati drivers (how typical!). It also worked with the old drivers.
Does anyone know of a fix for this, or do I just buy an nVidia card (like I should have in the first place (I would rather not))?
Oh yeah! Other stuff renders fine too, like glxgears and fg_glxgears.
