Unbinding textures in OpenGL

I was just wondering if there was any way to "unbind" textures in OpenGL. I tend to run out of texture memory if i load really big texture files and so was just wondering if i could just unallocate textures which i'm not using to free up texture ram on the video card.

Thanks

Not totaly sure what happens if you try to rebind to a smaller texture? and other option if ofcourse the glDeleteTextures(GLsizei n, const GLuint *textures ); I never used the Delete tho, so I cant realy tell you if it will work =)
