The default directory chosen by the installer shoud be /usr/games/enemy-territory
the installer also creates a .etwolf directory in your home directory.
You need to have alsa with oss emulation or oss drivers installed.
If you choose alsa then open a terminal and enter:
I got the same issue I'm running both a snd blaster x gamer card and a usb card(has digital out for 5.1) no I have tried setting it up on either card in KDE but I get no sound on either card I have tried the above mentioned command line suggestions but to no avail. I have tried setting up KDE so that instead of using alsa to using oss or threaded and that didn't work either (slack 10: 2.24)
well I have to say I have searched high and low for an answer to this question and found it posted here by user Linux.tar.gz what you need to do is artsdsp -m et that will launch the game and there is sound hope this helps everybody out

Rep:
I tried that solution, didn't really work out well for me because sound was super choppy when it was piped thru artsdsp, even though i had my buffer super-low.
The better solution is the one listed above, but to do it on boot every time, so, either in your Xsession script, or in /etc/conf.d/local.start (or wherever your startup script resides.) Works now, for me, every time, beautifully.
Side note, you will have to do this every time, unless you have it in a boot script, and you will most likely have to do it for quake3, and perhaps some other games. This one has given many people headaches, so don't feel all lonesome in the world.
