reinstall the graphics drivers, make sure to set the default colour depth to 24bit and reboot your pc. this worked for me. im not sure if all those steps are necessary though. to do the colour depth bit just look in you XF86Config.conf or xorg.conf file. ask for more help if you need it.

Awesome!! I got it up and running. I had my video set to 16bit and once it was changed to 24bit the game fired up. Thank you for the advice Mr Marmmalade, that helped out a great deal. One thing though when I am in the game the it does look funky, I didnt reload the drivers, do you think that it could be that??

having same problem...

...well, maybe the same problem. I get very similar output to the console:

Code:

Free86-VidModeExtension Activated at 640x480
Using 8/8/8 Color bits, 8 Alpha bits, 24 depth, 8 stencil display.
The game then just goes to a blackscreen, and if I move the mouse I can see that it is really just a black window covering the display, on a much bigger desktop (the screen resolution was decreased, but the desktop stayed the same size)

Now, in /etc/X11/xorg.conf I have in the screen section only this display:

Code:
SubSection "Display"
                Viewport 0 0
                Depth 24
                Modes "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
So I should be running in 24 bit already, no?

I have a GF4ti, with nvidia drivers installed, and run FC2.

here's that part of my xorg.conf. you can see that the first section chooses which of the following sections to use. i.e. ' DefaultDepth 24' tells it to use the last section and ignore the 8 & 16-bit bits. so make sure you've got 'DefaultDepth' set to 24.

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen 1"
Device "** NVIDIA (generic) [nv]"
Monitor "My Monitor"
DefaultDepth 24

Subsection "Display"
Depth 8
Modes "1024x768" "1280x1024" "1152x864" "800x600" "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1024x768" "1280x1024" "1152x864" "800x600" "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1024x768"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
EndSection

Sorry, I should have posted the entire section, I already have the DefaultDepth at 24:
Is there any way I can check the depth of the screen being used?

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "1280x960" "1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection

heh. in the KDE 'Info Centre --> X-Server' bit it shows the colour depth (i think). well it says various things.

from your earlier console info it mentions a few errors, about not being able to load things. here's my sucessful one to compare with. yours stops just before the 'GL_RENDERED' bit.

here's a guess; your doom3 looks like its trying to run in 640x480 so maybe your windowing system doesnt like it and decided to do the annoying 'desktop-bigger-than-screen' (DBTS) mode. see how in my xorg.conf i got rid of all but the 1024x768 resolutions just to stop DBTS thing from happening.

also it looks like i'm not using your sort of mouse (DGA DirectVideo Mouse). ant yours cant load the autoexec & dommconfig files either.

i dunno whats wrong witrh yours. i presume you've got an OpenGL capable card?
