No error msg in RHEL 4

hi, i'm new to RHEL4. before this i'm used to installed web-based software on SUSE and debian. it was easy to troubleshoot any problem iether because of the PHP or mysql database.

however, in RHEL, even there was no connection to the mysql database, there was no error. how do i fix this. i'm using php and mysql for my system.

thanks.
