My External Us Robotics Modem

Hi Dears

I am having a US Robotics external modem I want to dial it from command line and when I run the command

wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

it gives me the following error don't know what is the problem.

Scanning your serial ports for a modem.

Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?

Please read the FAQ at http://open.nit.ca/wvdial/

If you still have problems, send mail to wvdial-list@lists.nit.ca.

don't know what to do with some help will apritiated.

when I dial it from the system-config-network

I don't know why wvdialconf is not finding your modem , but you should be able to set up your /etc/wvdial.conf file manually and then use wvdial from the command line (although you might have to mess with permissions). The wvdial.conf file is discussed in the wvdial man page, but if you still can't figure it out I would be happy to post a sanitized version of mine for you.

Good luck

P.S. If perchance your modem actually is locked by something in the GUI world (or anything else) you will still need to solve that problem before using wvdial.
