My original problem was that X11 was spawning to fast when I tried to start my FC3 server. It is trying to start at runlevel 5 instead of 3. I tried to vi into /etc/inittab to change the run level, I can't because /etc/inittab is read-only and I am unable to write to a read only file. I tried to chmod 777 the file, with no luck.
Today, I tried to remount /etc and that didn't work either. When I tried to mount it, I got the error: "mount: can't find /etc in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab"
How do I make this file writable so that I can get the runlevel changed and get my server back up?

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
You are probably not the superuser which means that you need to log in as root and edit the /etc/inittab. This is because you need root privileges to edit such a file.
