FC3 was fast, now VERY slow

Hi I have been using FC3 for a few days now and it worked great. Suddenly last night it suddenly became very very slow, i rebooted and it took about an hour to reboot! It wasn't hanging on any one thing just everything was going slow, it takes about 2 minutes for my browser to open when I click on it. Used to take seconds.

I have a Pentium 2 450mhz with 256 mb ram (It ran fast for days)

Um okay, I guess my dsl stopped working last night and thats when everything slowed down. So I reset the dsl, restart fc3 and now everything is fast again? Why does losing my internet connection/router cause everything to tun 20 times slower!? (not just internet)

It probably stopped what it was doing and tried to get the network connection back up, it happens.
